The hull will <strong>withstand collisions, submerged tree branches, and rocks<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I wouldn\u2019t recommend taking it on shallow rivers too often, but once in a while shouldn\u2019t be a problem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Speed<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>First of all, the Perception Access 9.5 is a recreational kayak, so <strong>don\u2019t expect to break any speed records<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>However<\/strong>, <strong>I must say I was surprised<\/strong> to see how fast it could go for a sit-on-top.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because it\u2019s so narrow and you sit so low on the water, you can actually be <strong>as fast as sit-in kayaks of the same specs<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I found I could get a <strong>decent cruising speed of 3 mph<\/strong>, which should be more than enough for recreational trips.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-horizontal is-content-justification-center is-layout-flex wp-container-core-buttons-layout-2 wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button is-style-fill\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link has-white-color has-text-color has-background wp-element-button\" href=\"https:\/\/www.westmarine.com\/perception-access-9.5-sit-on-top-angler-kayak-19381284.html\" style=\"border-radius:15px;background-color:#fe4a49\"><strong>Get Best Price<\/strong><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Maneuverability<\/h3>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image is-style-default\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"705\" height=\"488\" src=\"https:\/\/www.happinesswithout.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Perception_Access-9.5.v2-705x488.jpg\" alt=\"Perception-Access-9.5 kayak\" class=\"wp-image-4782\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.happinesswithout.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Perception_Access-9.5.v2-705x488.jpg 705w, https:\/\/www.happinesswithout.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Perception_Access-9.5.v2-150x104.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.happinesswithout.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Perception_Access-9.5.v2.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 705px) 100vw, 705px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>Being narrow and short means the Access 9.5 <strong>should have excellent maneuverability<\/strong>.<strong><br>However, that\u2019s unfortunately not the case<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The maneuverability on this kayak is<strong> very disappointing<\/strong>, and that\u2019s <strong>because of the hull shape <\/strong>and the integrated skeg (more about this later).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Therefore, I really wouldn\u2019t recommend the Access 9.5 for narrow rivers or any kind of fast-moving water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Comfort<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Depending on your expectations, you might think the Access 9.5 offers good, or terrible comfort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Indeed, it has a <strong>molded-in seat <\/strong>(which is like very thin padding)<strong> that most recreational kayaks in this price range don\u2019t have<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>However<\/strong>,<strong> the said seat is still way too uncomfortable to fish all day long<\/strong>. If you plan on fishing for more than 3 hours, I\u2019d recommend buying a proper seat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For beginners who are used to having absolutely no seat at all, then it\u2019s definitely a nice upgrade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then, you also don\u2019t get proper adjustable footrests, but several indentations so you can have a comfortable leg position. Again, it\u2019s the cheap way of doing it but it does the job.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Stability and\u202fTracking<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Let me start by saying the Perception Access 9.5 is <strong>not made for standing<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now that\u2019s out of the way, <strong>I found it to be very stable even in mild waves<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>You could take this kayak on big lakes<\/strong> without flipping, although I\u202falways recommend staying close to the shore just in case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now, if you remember we just said that this kayak had pretty bad maneuverability. And that\u2019s actually due to the fact it has <strong>great tracking<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Access 9.5 will <strong>go straight very easily<\/strong> thanks to the <strong>molded-in skeg <\/strong>and the multi-chine hull. So even if you have bad technique, <strong>you won\u2019t go round in circles<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-horizontal is-content-justification-center is-layout-flex wp-container-core-buttons-layout-3 wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button is-style-fill\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link has-white-color has-text-color has-background wp-element-button\" href=\"https:\/\/www.westmarine.com\/perception-access-9.5-sit-on-top-angler-kayak-19381284.html\" style=\"border-radius:15px;background-color:#fe4a49\"><strong>Get Best Price<\/strong><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Durability<\/h3>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image is-style-default\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"388\" height=\"373\" src=\"https:\/\/www.happinesswithout.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/P-Access-9.5.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4784\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.happinesswithout.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/P-Access-9.5.jpg 388w, https:\/\/www.happinesswithout.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/P-Access-9.5-150x144.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 388px) 100vw, 388px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>As mentioned above, the Access 9.5 is virtually indestructible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And if you ever had any problems with it, you\u2019d be covered by Perception\u2019s<strong> 5-year warranty<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While not as amazing as Old Town\u2019s lifetime warranty, it\u2019s quite standard for kayaks at this price range.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Finally, <strong>there aren\u2019t any loose parts<\/strong> on this kayak, so literally <strong>nothing could break over time<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Portability<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Being so light at 42 lb, the Perception Access 9.5 is <strong>incredibly easy to carry.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Anyone can load it on top of their car <\/strong>without help, <strong>even skinny guys and women<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Carrying to and from the water is very easy<\/strong>, and the <strong>replaceable skid plate <\/strong>even allows you to drag it (in case you\u2019re really feeling lazy that day).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You have <strong>molded-in handles <\/strong>at the bow and stern, and two molded-in handles on the sides for loading\/unloading.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Overall, I really like the transportability which makes it a <strong>great throw-and-go kayak<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Fishing Ease<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>First of all, I must warn you that the Perception Access 9.5 is a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.happinesswithout.com\/best-beginner-fishing-kayak\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"2486\">recreational fishing kayak<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As such, it\u2019s pretty <strong>bare-bones<\/strong> and it doesn\u2019t have many fishing features.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>You still get a cup holder<\/strong> right in front of the seat, as well as<strong> two flush-mounted rod holders<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, <strong>I don\u2019t understand why there\u2019s no paddle holder<\/strong>. This is really inconvenient when fishing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Of course, at this price point you get <strong>no gear tracks<\/strong> so<strong> you\u2019ll have to do some drilling <\/strong>to mount your fishfinder, camera, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Regarding storage, there\u2019s a very small storage space at the front to store a dry bag, and a <strong>decent rear tankwell storage area that can fit a milk crate<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pro tip: <strong>I\u2019d recommend buying some tubes for the rod holders as they\u2019re quite bad<\/strong>. They both track well and have good speed for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.happinesswithout.com\/best-sit-on-top-kayak\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"867\">sit-on-tops<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The main differences are the seat and the dry hatch<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Basically, the\u202fTribe is slightly more expensive, and as such it has a <strong>proper seat <\/strong>as well as a dry hatch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But apart from that, they\u2019re pretty much the same kayak.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, if you\u2019re trying to decide between the two, I\u2019d say if you\u2019re going to go<strong> for long fishing days,<\/strong> get the Tribe as the seat will be much more comfortable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.happinesswithout.com\/perception-tribe-9-5-review\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"3586\">Read my full Perception Tribe 9.5 review.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Pelican Catch 100<\/h3>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image is-style-default\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"705\" height=\"396\" src=\"https:\/\/www.happinesswithout.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/PELICAN-THE-CATCH-100-705x396.jpg\" alt=\"Pic of Pelican The Catch 100 kayak\" class=\"wp-image-4775\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.happinesswithout.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/PELICAN-THE-CATCH-100-705x396.jpg 705w, https:\/\/www.happinesswithout.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/PELICAN-THE-CATCH-100-150x84.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.happinesswithout.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/PELICAN-THE-CATCH-100.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 705px) 100vw, 705px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>The Pelican Catch 100\u202fis<strong> slightly more expensive <\/strong>than the Access 9.5, but it\u2019s generally not more than a $100 difference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019ll start by saying that the Catch 100<strong>\u202fisn\u2019t nearly as fast<\/strong> as the Access. If you want speed, the Catch will be a nightmare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However,<strong> its real upside is its extreme stability<\/strong>.
