The hull will <strong>withstand collisions<\/strong>, submerged<strong> tree branches<\/strong>, <strong>rocks<\/strong>, and anything you throw at it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pelican kayaks are known for being<strong> thermoformed instead of rotomolded<\/strong>, which makes them very durable and they <strong>don\u2019t flex <\/strong>at all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Speed<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>At 10 feet long,<strong> I was surprised by how fast <\/strong>I could take the Sentinel 100XR\u202fAngler.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I can get a <strong>good cruising speed of 3 mph<\/strong> (a lot more than on the Catch 100) and a top speed of 4 mph that I could sustain for around 20\u202fminutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Compared to similarly-priced fishing kayaks<\/strong>, the Sentinel 100XR\u202fis definitely <strong>the fastest<\/strong>, and I think much is due to the fact you sit so close to the waterline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Maneuverability<\/h3>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image is-style-default\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"705\" height=\"514\" src=\"https:\/\/www.happinesswithout.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/P-SENTINEL-100XR-705x514.jpg\" alt=\"Pelican Sentinel kayak\" class=\"wp-image-4759\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.happinesswithout.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/P-SENTINEL-100XR-705x514.jpg 705w, https:\/\/www.happinesswithout.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/P-SENTINEL-100XR-150x109.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.happinesswithout.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/P-SENTINEL-100XR.jpg 797w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 705px) 100vw, 705px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>No surprises here, the Pelican Sentinel 100XR being so short and narrow, it <strong>turns very well<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>For narrow rivers<\/strong> where you have to turn on the spot, it\u2019s <strong>perfect<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You\u2019ll also be able to avoid obstacles on small lakes and ponds, so overall the good maneuverability makes it quite versatile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Comfort<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The seat on the Sentinel 100XR is the same as on the Sentinel 100X.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As such, it\u2019s quite<strong> comfortable and breathable<\/strong>, but<strong> too thin to be called high-end<\/strong>. After 4 hours on the water, I definitely start feeling uncomfortable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also, because you sit so low it will be <strong>hard to avoid getting wet<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>To be honest, I much prefer the seat on my Pelican Catch 100<\/strong>\u202fwhich sits high enough that you don\u2019t get wet and is also more comfortable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Apart from that, the adjustable foot pedals are quite comfortable and easy to adjust.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Stability and Tracking<\/h3>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image is-style-default\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"770\" height=\"365\" src=\"https:\/\/www.happinesswithout.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/P-sentinel-100-xr.jpg\" alt=\"PELICAN SENTINEL-100XR\" class=\"wp-image-4762\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.happinesswithout.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/P-sentinel-100-xr.jpg 770w, https:\/\/www.happinesswithout.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/P-sentinel-100-xr-705x334.jpg 705w, https:\/\/www.happinesswithout.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/P-sentinel-100-xr-150x71.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.happinesswithout.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/P-sentinel-100-xr-768x365.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 770px) 100vw, 770px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>The Pelican Sentinel 100XR Angler is quite stable thanks to the flat hull, but unfortunately, you <strong>can\u2019t stand and cast<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I tried standing to see how I would feel, and I can tell you it feels really unstable. Nothing like the Catch 100 at all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you stay seated, you should feel <strong>pretty stable even in the wind and moderate waves<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Regarding tracking<\/strong>, as expected it\u2019s not amazing. Since there\u2019s no rudder and it\u2019s a short boat, <strong>beginners will struggle until they improve their paddling technique<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re a somewhat experienced paddler, you won\u2019t have any problems going straight as long as there\u2019s no wind or currents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Durability<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>As mentioned above, the Sentinel 100XR\u2019s hull \u202fis virtually indestructible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, in case you have any problems, you\u2019re covered by <strong>Pelican\u2019s 5-year warranty<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s not as impressive as Old Town\u2019s lifetime warranty, but on par with most kayaks at this price range.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Finally, <strong>I haven\u2019t heard any complaints<\/strong> about parts breaking down, so I assume you shouldn\u2019t have any problems in the long run.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Portability<\/h3>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image is-style-default\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"705\" height=\"688\" src=\"https:\/\/www.happinesswithout.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/PELICAN-SENTINEL-705x688.jpg\" alt=\"PIC OF PELICAN SENTINEL 100XR KAYAK\" class=\"wp-image-4761\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.happinesswithout.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/PELICAN-SENTINEL-705x688.jpg 705w, https:\/\/www.happinesswithout.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/PELICAN-SENTINEL-150x146.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.happinesswithout.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/PELICAN-SENTINEL.jpg 796w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 705px) 100vw, 705px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>The upside to having such a narrow and short boat is that it <strong>weighs absolutely nothing<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Carrying it to and from the water is a piece of cake<\/strong>, even without a kayak cart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Loading it on top of your car should be very easy<\/strong> to do on your own even if you\u2019re a <strong>skinny guy or woman<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The handles at the bow and stern are quite comfortable, and I really like the side handles which make for easier loading\/unloading.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Pelican 100XR Angler Features and Storage Space<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Regarding extra features, the Sentinel 100XR\u202fhas a <strong>bungee paddle holder on each side<\/strong>. While I prefer paddle clips, these paddle holders still do the job.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then, you get<strong> two dry hatches<\/strong> which is an improvement over the Sentinel 100X.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of them is at the front to store some gear that you won\u2019t use on the water.
