With unmatched stability for big guys, it cuts through the wind like no other. Excellent tracking, speed, and maneuverability. For calm water, and even fast-moving rivers, I\u2019d get the ATAK 120\u202fwithout thinking twice. Consider the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.happinesswithout.com\/pelican-catch-120-review\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"1664\">Pelican Catch 120<\/a> instead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s a <strong>heavy boat<\/strong>. This means you\u2019ll have a <strong>hard time loading it on top of your SUV<\/strong>\u202falone. This means you\u2019ll need help, or you\u2019ll have to invest in a trailer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also, you\u2019ll need somewhere to <strong>keep it out of the sun<\/strong>. That said, I recommend not dragging it as it doesn\u2019t have a skid plate. Dragging it too much will damage the hull over time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Speed<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Wilderness Systems ATAK 120\u202fis a <strong>fast <\/strong>boat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You\u2019ll be hard-pressed to find a boat that paddles as well, <strong>especially in the wind<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Considering how stable it is, I was honestly surprised to see it go that fast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Maneuverability<\/h3>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image is-style-default\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"700\" height=\"664\" src=\"https:\/\/www.happinesswithout.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/ATAK-120.jpg\" alt=\"WS ATAK 120\" class=\"wp-image-4442\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.happinesswithout.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/ATAK-120.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.happinesswithout.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/ATAK-120-150x142.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>The ATAK 120\u202fhas a perfect balance between maneuverability and tracking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s able to <strong>turn pretty quickly<\/strong> but at the same time, it <strong>doesn\u2019t get blown away<\/strong> even in strong wind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019d feel comfortable taking it on moving water as well. To give you a comparison, it\u2019s not as maneuverable as my <a href=\"https:\/\/www.happinesswithout.com\/jackson-coosa-hd-review\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"4389\">Jackson Coosa HD<\/a>, but <strong>more maneuverable than my Cuda HD<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Comfort<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The seat on the ATAK 120\u202fis <strong>very comfortable<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It has <strong>three positions<\/strong> \u2212 <strong>high<\/strong>, <strong>low<\/strong>, and <strong>reclined<\/strong>. It can also be set <strong>forward <\/strong>or <strong>backward<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Switching positions is easy, although it\u2019s<strong> not as easy as on a Jackson kayak,<\/strong> for instance. You can\u2019t just slide it forward and backward, you have to remove it and place it back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I like that the seat drys super fast. Having a wet seat is so uncomfortable and itchy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Airpro Max<strong> seat drys almost instantly<\/strong> when it gets water on it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also, the seat is <strong>wide and comfortable for big guys<\/strong> and people with back pain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The<strong> foot braces are adjustable<\/strong>, but they\u2019re kind of flimsy. The footpegs on my Bonafide SS127 are sturdier, made of metal. They\u2019re still comfortable enough though.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Stability and Tracking<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Now that\u2019s where the ATAK really shines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It has the <strong>same amazing stability<\/strong> that made the popularity of its longer brother, the ATAK 140.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This means you can easily<strong> stand and cast<\/strong> without feeling unstable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Even for big guys<\/strong>, the ATAK\u202fis one of the <strong>most stable fishing kayaks<\/strong> out there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can stand and move around the cockpit thanks to its stable pontoon hull.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Regarding tracking, it just <strong>blows my mind <\/strong>how this boat keeps its course without even needing a rudder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even with 15-20 mph winds, <strong>I don\u2019t get blown off course<\/strong>. And even when I\u2019m not moving, the kayak kind of stays put.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With my Hobie PA, the wind blows me away instantly and I have to constantly pedal to keep the nose facing the right direction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ATAK 120\u202fhas <strong>amazing tracking<\/strong>, which makes it perfect for rivers and lake fishing, even in windy conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Durability<\/h3>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image is-style-default\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"700\" height=\"659\" src=\"https:\/\/www.happinesswithout.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Bass-on-hood-1-Atomic-ATAK-120.jpg\" alt=\"WS ATAK120\" class=\"wp-image-4447\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.happinesswithout.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Bass-on-hood-1-Atomic-ATAK-120.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.happinesswithout.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Bass-on-hood-1-Atomic-ATAK-120-150x141.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>The Wilderness Systems ATAK 120\u202fis an <strong>incredibly durable boat<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This kayak will <strong>last you a lifetime<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And if ever you have any problems with it, Wilderness Systems is known for its <strong>great customer service <\/strong>and warranty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I <strong>haven\u2019t heard any complaints <\/strong>with this boat about pieces breaking up or anything\u2026 unlike on Pelican kayaks for instance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That said, the ATAK 120\u202f<strong>doesn\u2019t have a skid plate<\/strong>, so if I were you I\u2019d <strong>avoid dragging it too much <\/strong>as this will inevitably damage the hull and reduce performance over time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Finally, there\u2019s a nice<strong> cup holder <\/strong>right in front of you on the boat. This is nice considering many boats don\u2019t include this little detail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Transportability<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The ATAK 120\u202fis a <strong>heavy kayak<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As such, it won\u2019t be as easy to carry as some other boats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re a skinny guy, you\u2019ll have a <strong>hard time loading it on top of your SUV<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Carrying it to and from the water without a kayak cart won\u2019t be fun either at 86 pounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Of course, it\u2019s not as heavy as a pedal kayak, so for most big guys it will still be easy enough to carry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>handles <\/strong>on the bow and stern are<strong> very comfortable <\/strong>and make loading, unloading, and tandem carrying quite easy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Wilderness Systems ATAK 120 Fishing Ease<\/h2>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image is-style-default\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"696\" height=\"671\" src=\"https:\/\/www.happinesswithout.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/WS-ATAK-120.jpeg\" alt=\"WS ATAK 120 FISHING EASE\" class=\"wp-image-4448\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.happinesswithout.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/WS-ATAK-120.jpeg 696w, https:\/\/www.happinesswithout.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/WS-ATAK-120-150x145.jpeg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 696px) 100vw, 696px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>The ATAK 120 has a <strong>ton of storage options<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>First of all, it has a <strong>huge rear tankwell storage<\/strong>. You can easily <strong>fit a black pack sideways<\/strong> in there, that\u2019s how big it is. Generally, I\u2019ll put my black pack with 8 rod holders and a cooler.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There\u2019s a <strong>big front hatch<\/strong>, but you should know it\u2019s not a dry hatch as it actually has some scuppers. It <strong>doesn\u2019t give access to the hull<\/strong>, which can be a good or a bad thing depending on your preferences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you put things inside the front hatch, they <strong>won\u2019t slide all the way back<\/strong>. However, the front hatch is kind of hard to reach when on the water, so I use it to put gear that I won\u2019t use on the water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The center pod has some storage that isn\u2019t watertight, where you can put soft plastics or crankbaits. It also allows you to put a <strong>fish finder <\/strong>in there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you want to get a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.happinesswithout.com\/best-motorized-kayak\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"2271\">motorized kayak<\/a>, you can actually remove the central pod and install the <strong>Helix Motor Drive<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I really like the <strong>paddle strap<\/strong> in front of the boat as well which is super convenient to slide your paddle in and out when fishing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Finally, there are <strong>gear tracks <\/strong>on each side of the boat to mount all your fishing gear, as usual on these high-end pedal kayaks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>Unfortunately, the ATAK 120\u202fdoesn\u2019t have any flush-mounted rod holders, although you can easily mount a YakAttack rod holder on the gear tracks without any drilling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Who is the Wilderness ATAK 120 for?<\/h2>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image is-style-default\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"705\" height=\"174\" src=\"https:\/\/www.happinesswithout.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Wilderness-Systems_ATAK_120-1-705x174.jpg\" alt=\"WILDERNESS SYSTEMS ATAK 120\" class=\"wp-image-4446\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.happinesswithout.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Wilderness-Systems_ATAK_120-1-705x174.jpg 705w, https:\/\/www.happinesswithout.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Wilderness-Systems_ATAK_120-1-150x37.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.happinesswithout.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Wilderness-Systems_ATAK_120-1.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 705px) 100vw, 705px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>As you may have guessed by now, the ATAK 120\u202fis for serious anglers looking for stability and speed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you want to stand and cast without feeling unstable\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you want to cut through the wind with ease\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you need tons of storage space to go river or lake fishing\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then the ATAK 120\u202fis for you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, with that quality, it\u2019s definitely not the cheapest kayak out there. If you\u2019re on a budget, maybe consider the Pelican 120 instead. Why? Because it\u2019s hands-down the best paddle kayak, with extreme stability and super low draft. It can go in <strong>very shallow water<\/strong> like no other boat, and it has a huge deck space.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also, the RADAR feels<strong> less stable<\/strong> than the ATAK. You can still stand and cast, but you\u2019ll feel tippy at first.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Great as a pedal kayak<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Slower<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Less stable<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.happinesswithout.com\/wilderness-systems-radar-115-review\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"3237\">Read my full Wilderness Systems Radar 115 review<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Wilderness Systems ATAK 140<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-style-default\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"705\" height=\"148\" src=\"https:\/\/www.happinesswithout.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/WS-ATAK_140-705x148.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2642\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.happinesswithout.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/WS-ATAK_140-705x148.png 705w, https:\/\/www.happinesswithout.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/WS-ATAK_140-150x32.png 150w, https:\/\/www.happinesswithout.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/WS-ATAK_140.png 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 705px) 100vw, 705px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>As mentioned above, the ATAK 140\u202fis the <strong>longer<\/strong>, <strong>older brother <\/strong>of the ATAK 120.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s 2 feet longer, mainly at the bow with a longer hatch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The cockpit is exactly the same<\/strong>, which means the ATAK 120\u202fis very spacious for its size.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the center pod, the ATAK\u202f140\u202fdoesn\u2019t have a scupper to put a side scan transducer or fishfinder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the rear, the ATAK 140\u202fhas a storage area with a rod locker in it, whereas the ATAK 120\u202fhas a huge tankwell.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ATAK 140\u202fhas one mounting point for a power pole, whereas the ATAK\u202f120\u202fhas <strong>two<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Obviously, being longer the <strong>ATAK 140\u202ftracks better and is faster<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As such, it\u2019s also<strong> less maneuverable<\/strong> and it won\u2019t turn as well, particularly when standing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Both boats shed the wind very well. You\u2019ll need several aftermarket products to make it as customizable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>In windy conditions<\/strong>, the Bonafide SS127 isn\u2019t nearly as good as the ATAK.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Same thing for shallow backwaters<\/strong>, the SS127\u202fjust isn\u2019t made for that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, <strong>if you\u2019re a<\/strong> <strong>big guy the Bonafide has a more comfortable seat<\/strong> that is higher up. It also takes less water inside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All in all, if you don\u2019t live in a windy area and you fish in deep water, then the SS127\u202fmight be a cheaper alternative to the ATAK 120.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can read my full <a href=\"https:\/\/www.happinesswithout.com\/bonafide-ss127-review\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"3209\">Bonafide SS127\u202freview<\/a> here if you want to know more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Wilderness Systems ATAK 120 &#8211; Last Thoughts<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>All in all, the Wilderness Systems ATAK 120\u202fis a<strong> fantastic fishing kayak<\/strong>, no doubt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I love the <strong>stability <\/strong>and <strong>maneuverability<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Tracking is simply unreal <\/strong>on this kayak, and it paddles really well in the wind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For regular people, and <strong>even for big guys<\/strong>, this is hands-down the<strong> best fishing kayak <\/strong>I\u2019ve ever had. (Excluding pedal kayaks which are my favorite)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The only <strong>downside <\/strong>is it <strong>tends to sell out very quickly<\/strong>. So by the time you\u2019re reading this review, it\u2019s probably already out of stock.
