You can <strong>easily switch <\/strong>between the HD and FD setup<strong> <\/strong>by simply removing eight bolts and changing the pods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For this reason, the review below applies to both the HD and FD setup, and the only difference in real life is that the <strong>Big Rig FD is faster, easier, and allows you to cover more distance<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The only place I\u2019d prefer a Big Rig HD is in shallow water with lots of weeds<\/strong>. But you really get value for your money, as the Big Rig has <strong>amazing stability<\/strong> and<strong> tons of fishing features<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Before getting a Big Rig, you should know it\u2019s a <strong>really heavy boat suited for big and tall guys<\/strong>. If you paddle on your own, getting your boat to the water might be a challenge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also, please make sure to <strong>always store your boat away from the sun<\/strong>. As it\u2019s made with polyethylene, excessive sun exposure might warp the hull.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Jackson Kayak Big Rig Specifications<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Length<\/strong>: 13.3 inches<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Width<\/strong>: 40 inches<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Weight<\/strong>: 145 pounds<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Load Capacity<\/strong>: 550 pounds<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Jackson Big Rig Kayak Design<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Material<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Jackson Kayak Big Rig FD is a rotomolded kayak made of a <strong>durable plastic called polyethylene<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This material is used in most fishing kayaks as it will <strong>withstand any bumps and collisions<\/strong>. It\u2019s <strong>virtually impossible to put a hole in the hull<\/strong>, even if you\u2019re the kind of person that always breaks things.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Speed<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Jackson Kayak\u2019s new Flex Drive pedal system is <strong>incredibly smooth and fast<\/strong>. Pedaling with this boat is much easier than with a traditional paddle kayak. <strong>When there\u2019s some wind or currents, the Big Rig FD is truly a life-saver<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because of its 13-foot length, the Big Rig FD is <strong>one of the fastest pedal fishing kayaks<\/strong> out there. This makes it great if your favorite fishing spots are far away, and <strong>you\u2019ll never fall behind<\/strong> if you go fishing with friends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you decide to go with the Big Rig HD instead (no Flex Drive), be prepared to go much slower as paddling such a heavy boat will take you twice the time it would take to pedal it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Maneuverability<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>With its 360 pedal system \u2212 which is a fancy way of saying you can <strong>pedal forward and backward<\/strong> \u2212 and its built-in rudder, <strong>the Big Rig FD is responsive and easy to maneuver<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because it\u2019s on the longer side, it won\u2019t be as good to make tight turns on narrow rivers as smaller fishing kayaks. I love that<strong> it can slide forward and backward<\/strong>, and you <strong>can also adjust the height <\/strong>to pedal effortlessly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Stability &amp; Tracking<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Big Rig is an <strong>incredibly stable boat <\/strong>that will allow you to <strong>stand and cast without ever worrying about tipping over<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It also boasts <strong>non-slip deck pads<\/strong> to make sure you don\u2019t fall when reeling in a big catch, even if the deck or your feet are wet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When it comes to tracking, the Big Rig is one of the best fishing kayaks out there. <strong>The built-in rudder allows you to go straight with ease<\/strong>, and the 13-foot length only works to your advantage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>In windy conditions or currents<\/strong>, the Big Rig will <strong>keep going straight and fast <\/strong>like no other boat. This makes it <strong>great for places with changing weather<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Durability<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Big Rig HD\/FD is <strong>as tough as they come<\/strong>. Expect to keep your boat for many years without any issue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My only qualm is <strong>I wish they\u2019d installed a skid plate <\/strong>on the hull. This is quite a heavy boat, so you\u2019ll probably want to drag it instead of carrying it. This dragging will unfortunately scratch the hull over time and reduce your shiny boat\u2019s performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Portability<\/h3>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"705\" height=\"405\" src=\"https:\/\/www.happinesswithout.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/jackson-kayak-big-rig-with-cart-e1630003021342-705x405.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3892\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.happinesswithout.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/jackson-kayak-big-rig-with-cart-e1630003021342-705x405.jpg 705w, https:\/\/www.happinesswithout.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/jackson-kayak-big-rig-with-cart-e1630003021342-150x86.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.happinesswithout.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/jackson-kayak-big-rig-with-cart-e1630003021342.jpg 960w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 705px) 100vw, 705px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>Because of its premier stability and performance, the Big Rig is unfortunately a very heavy boat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re going to be on your own, I\u2019d <strong>recommend getting a kayak cart<\/strong> to easily transport your kayak.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And if you have a partner, this kayak does have sturdy &amp; comfortable <strong>carry handles on the bow and stern<\/strong>, but I\u202fwish they\u2019d have put handles on the sides as well to make three or four person carries easier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Jackson Kayak Big Rig Features &amp; Accessories<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Apart from the numerous fishing features we\u2019ll talk about in the next section, the Big Rig HD\/FD\u202f<strong>doesn\u2019t come with free goodies<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s usual for beginner kayaks to include a free paddle and such, but <strong>for high-end boats like this one, free accessories are rare<\/strong> as anglers tend to have their own, high-quality gear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That said,<strong> I\u2019d recommend you bring a paddle even if you don\u2019t plan on using it.<\/strong> It\u2019s a good safety measure in case something goes wrong with the pedal system, or in case you end up in very shallow water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Jackson Big Rig Kayak Fishing Ease<\/h2>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"705\" height=\"529\" src=\"https:\/\/www.happinesswithout.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/catching-fish-with-my-big-rig-fd-705x529.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3916\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.happinesswithout.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/catching-fish-with-my-big-rig-fd-705x529.jpg 705w, https:\/\/www.happinesswithout.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/catching-fish-with-my-big-rig-fd-150x113.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.happinesswithout.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/catching-fish-with-my-big-rig-fd.jpg 960w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 705px) 100vw, 705px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>Now, that\u2019s where the Big Rig FD really shines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The new Big Rig HD\/FD\u202fhas <strong>four rod tip protectors <\/strong>(two on each side) and a <strong>wider rod trough staging area<\/strong> so you can set extra rods in there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It also has <strong>two flush-mounted rod holders<\/strong> as well as<strong> fly reel pockets with fly rod holders<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>oversized front hatch tankwell<\/strong> can be opened very easily with a <strong>single hand<\/strong>. It contains a <strong>hatch bin<\/strong> which is really useful to make sure your gear doesn\u2019t glide and end up in the stern of the boat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As usual, it\u2019s got a large rear tankwell with adjustable bungee cords just behind the seat. It\u2019s also got a rear hatch which gives you access to the rudder system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the deck, it has a <strong>stand assist strap<\/strong> to help you get up, as well as <strong>some geometry built i<\/strong>n if you want to<strong> set down your rod real quick to grab something else<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Big Rig HD\/FD has<strong> gear tracks all over it<\/strong>. It\u2019s got gear tracks in front of the seat, at the seat, and behind the seat. The front gear track is equipped with a <strong>YakAttack Omega rod holder<\/strong> and a<strong> tumbler holder<\/strong> (with an included Orion tumbler).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Unlike many hobie boats, the Big Rig HD has a <strong>nice paddle holder <\/strong>on the side of your boat so that it <strong>stays out of your way but very accessible<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Big Rig HD\u2019s got a giant storage pod on the deck, but the FD doesn\u2019t as that\u2019s where the pedal system is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For all of you who like to use a large Totalscan transducer (or any other large transducer), this new Big Rig is perfect as it\u2019s got a <strong>larger transducer scupper hole<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img class=\"wp-block-heading\">Jackson Kayak Big Rig Value<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>So, who\u2019s the Big Rig FD for?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While not as expensive as Hobie\u2019s PA 14, the Big Rig is still a<strong> high-end fishing kayak with the corresponding price tag<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you want a pedal fishing kayak with a huge storage capacity, lots of customization options and fishing features, stand and cast ability, great tracking, speed and maneuverability\u2026 In short, if you want a fantastic fishing pedal kayak, the Big Rig is what you\u2019re looking for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div 130<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Jackson Kayak Big Rig Alternatives<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Hobie Pro Angler 14<\/h3>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"705\" height=\"211\" has more storage space and has gunnels to separate you from the water (and sharks ;-)) more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Of course, this means it is also <strong>much more expensive <\/strong>than the Jackson Kayak Big Rig.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The only advantage the Big Rig has over the Pro Angler 14 (besides the price) is that it has <strong>shallow water (less than 2.5\u2019) ability<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Bigger and better than the Big Rig<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Very expensive<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Not good for shallow water (less than 2.5\u2019)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><a load capacity, so you won\u2019t be able to take as much gear..<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When it comes to speed, <strong>the Coosa FD\u202fis slightly faster than the Big Rig FD<\/strong>.
